Asus has recently announced its upcoming classic LGA 1150 motherboards with Z87 chipsets, which will support the latest Intel Haswell processors. The classic series includes the Asus Z87-Deluxe as the flagship board, followed by Z87-Pro, Z87-Plus, Z87-A, Z87-C, and a workstation motherboard the Asus Z87 WS. Asus decided to implement a new color scheme, replacing the Blue-accented color with a unique Gold color scheme. Honestly this reminds me of the old P5Q days, where the heatsink are Gold plated. Check out each motherboard’s features and specifications below.

Asus Z87-A and Z87-A

The Asus Z87-A and Z87-C are their entry level motherboards for the Z87 lineup. They are not as feature rich compared to their mid and high end brothers. But they are more affordable and budget friendly, they should be around or below $100 USD. Of course they also have the Black, Gold and Yellow color scheme.

The Asus Z87-C is the most basic Z87 motherboard. It has the following specifications:

4-Phase CPU power Digi+ VRM

4x DIMM slots that supports up to 64GB dual-channel DDR3 memory

1x PCI-Express 3.0 x16 connected to the CPU

1x PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (x4 electrical) connected to PCH

2x PCI-Express x1 slots

3x PCI legacy slots

8x SATA 6Gb/s ports

DVI, D-Sub and HDMI for its display output

4x USB 3.0

8-channel HD audio

1x Gigabit Ethernet connection

Additional features are EPU, USB 3.0 Boost, GPU Boost, Fan Xpert 2, TPU, and it’s Windows 8 Ready. It draws its power from an 8-pin power connector.

Meanwhile, the more feature rich Asus Z87-A has the following specifications:

8-phase CPU power Digi+ VRM

4x DIMM slots that supports up to 64GB dual-channel DDR3 memory

2x PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x16/NC or x8/x8 in multi-GPU mode) also connected to the CPU

1x PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (x4 electrical) connected to PCH

2x PCI-Express x1

1x PCI legaxy slot

6x SATA 6 Gb/s ports

8-channel HD audio with optical SPDIF

1x Gigabit Ethernet

D-Sub, DVI and probaly HDMI for its display

Supports 2-way SLI and CrossFire X

Additional features includes EPU, UEFI BIOS, USB 3.0 Boost, Remote GO!, Fan Expert 2, TPU, and other Asus Exclusives. It also draws its power from an 8-pin power connector.

Asus Z87-Plus and Z87 Pro

The Asus Z87-Plus and the Z87 Pro are the mainstream Z87 motherboards. The Asus Z87-Plus has similar features of the Z87-A. But it offers more connectivity options like 12 SATA ports. It has stabilization features for memory and CPU overclocking with just a push of a button, making it overclocker-friendly.

But for those who are looking for more features, the Asus Z87-Pro could be the one you are looking for. It’s designed for users who wants a wider range of connectivity options, more overclocking potentials, multi-GPU capabilities and more. Below are some of its specifications:

12-Phase CPU power Digi+ VRM

4x DIMM slots that supports up to 64GB dual-channel DDR3 memory with Digi+ DRAM

3x PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x16/NC/NC, x8/x8/NC or x8/x4/x4 in multi-GPU mode) connected to the CPU

4x PCI-Express x1

6x SATA 6 Gb/s ports

2x SATA 3 Gb/s ports

2x external SATA ports

8x USB 3.0 ports

8-channel HD audio

1x Gigabit Ethernet

WiFi 802.11 b/g/n (WiFi Go!)

D-Sub, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort for its display

Supports 3-way SLI and CrossFire X

All Asus exclusive features

Asus Z87-Deluxe

The Asus Z87-Deluxe is the alpha dog it this pack. It’s the most feature rich amongst the Classic series, and offers more connectivity options than the Z87-PRO and better overclocking capabilities. The Z87-Deluxe has the following specifications:

16-Phase CPU power Digi+ VRM

4x DIMM slots that supports up to 64GB dual-channel DDR3 memory with Digi+ DRAM

3x PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x16/NC/NC, x8/x8/NC or x8/x4/x4 in multi-GPU mode) connected to the CPU

4x PCI-Express x1

6x SATA 6 Gb/s ports

4x SATA 3 Gb/s ports

2x external SATA ports

8x USB 3.0 ports

8-channel HD audio

2x Gigabit Ethernet

WiFi 802.11 b/g/n (WiFi Go!)

D-Sub, DVI, HDMI and/or DisplayPort for its display

Supports 3-way SLI and CrossFire X

All Asus exclusive features

If you noticed, it has the same motherboard layout from that of the Z87-PRO, but you can see more stuffs built in this board, like dedicated power and reset button, 4 digit panel, heatsinks with heatpipes and more.

ASUS Z87 WS

Aside from the main Classic lineup, Asus also has a Z87 workstation motherboard – the Asus Z87 WS. It features dual server-class Intel NICs, 4x PCI-Express x16 slots, 2x PCI-Express x1 slots, 10 SATA ports and many more.

If you look at the image of the Asus Z87 WS above, more or less you will have an idea what this board is capable of.

There you have it for the main Asus Z87 classic line up. Asus also unveiled the Z87 Republic of Gamers (ROG) series mothers and the Z87 TUF (The Ultimate Force) motherboards, but features a different color scheme. The ROG and the RUF are the cream of the crop and are for PC enthusiasts who are looking for more power and overclocking capabilities.

With regards to the new Gold-color scheme that Asus implemented, do you like it? The Gold heatsinks reminds me of my old Asus P5Q motherboards. Some people think that it doesn’t look good at all and that the color scheme is somewhat ugly. Some think that it’s a better color scheme than the Blue ones found in the Z77 and Z78 boards. What about you?

Google has recently released a new unified messaging service for Android and iOS devices, called Hangouts. Just hours after its official announcement from Google I/O 2013, Google Hangouts is now available for download for Android and iOS devices. This new messaging app is somewhat similar to a Facebook messenger app is, but comes with its own flavoring. Hangouts will replace Google+ Messenger, Google+ video and Google Talk, since all of these will be integrated into this app. You can download Google Hangouts from the links below.

Since Google Hangouts is a synchronized chat service, it will work on PC, laptops, Android devices, iPhones and iPads. You can also share photos, emoji, and do video calls aside from chatting. The best part is, it’s free!

Google Hangouts Features

Say more with photos and emoji.

See when people are together in Hangouts, when they’re typing, or whether they’ve seen your message.

Turn any conversation into a video call with up to 10 friends.

Message friends anytime, even if they’re not connected right now.

Use Hangouts on computers, Android and Apple devices.

Hangouts stay in sync across devices so you can start or continue them anywhere.

Choose from hundreds of emoji to help you make your point

See what you talked about in the past, including shared photos and your video call history.

Get notifications just once. Once you see an alert, you won’t see repeats on your computer or other Android devices.

View collections of photos shared from each of your Hangouts.

Snooze notifications at times when you’d prefer to be undisturbed by alerts.

However, if you frequently used the “invisible” status, like in Google Talk, Hangouts doesn’t have this feature, yet. Meaning your always visible.

Google Hangouts will compete with other popular messaging apps like Viber, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and others. But perhaps they made this unified and multi-platform app to combat BlackBerry’s BBM that is now available for Android and iOS users as well.

Download Here

For Android devices, you can download Google Hangouts here.

While for iOS devices, you van download it on the App Store here.

Bleach chapter 537 was recently released. The chapter was entitled “Everything but the Rain Op.10“. I guess this will be the last of that title since a shocking turn of events where revealed in this chapter. Isshin revealed to Ichigo the truth behind Masaki’ death. In connection with that, he also revealed some information about the “King of Quincies”, Juha Bach. Find out more on my Bleach 537 review below.

Bleach Chapter 537 Review

If you have watched Bleach episodes or reading its manga chapter from the beginning, you should know that Ichigo’s mother, Masaki, was killed by a Hollow called Grand Fisher. This was revealed to us in the early Arc of Bleach. Grand Fisher was a strong Hollow, but not as strong compared to the many Hollows and Arrancars that Ichigo fought.

Masaki was very much capable of defeating Grand Fisher. Isshin didn’t went out to help her because he has no powers, and he would only get in Masaki’s way. However, Isshin was wrong about that. During that day, Masaki’s powers disappeared. Rather it was stolen by non other than Juha Bach, the King of the Quincies.

Masaki was a pure blooded Quincy and her Blut Vene was powerful. She could have defeated the Grand Fisher easily, like what she did with Aizen’s experiment – the “White”. But it just so happen on that faithful day, it was time for the king to regain his powers.

It was called Auswalen / Ausscheren, meaning holy selection. After 999 years the sealed king will return with all his powers. It will take 900 years for the king to regain his heartbeat, 90 years to regains his intellect, and 9 years to regain his powers.

The “Holy Selection” did not happen to Masaki alone, but also to Uryuu’s mother, Kanae Katagiri. She to was considered by Juha to be “impure”, thus her power too was stolen and died.

Juha Created the Quincy: That’s Why His King

And yes guys, it was also revealed that not only that Juha is the King of the Quincy, but he is also their creator. He created the Quincies, and his blood flows through the blood of the other Quincy as well. Same goes with Ichigo, Juha’s blood flows within him. But Ichigo is a half-breed, and most probably Juha considers him as “impure”. Hopefully there will be a chapter revealing more about Juha Bach and the history of Quincy.

This is also the reason why Juha calls Ichigo “son”. He considers his creation and his sons daughters, and this makes him the “all father” of the Quincy race.

If Juha is this powerful, how can Ichigo defeat him? Ichigo might need another special training. He will need to unleash the Shinigami – Hollow – Quincy powers that is within him to defeat the King.

Ichigo Kurosaki vs Uryuu Ishida

Before Bleach chapter 537 ended, Juha called someone, the “subject”, the Prinz von Licth (Prince of Light), Ishida Uryuu. He is planning to use Uryuu to fight for their cause, and probably plans to use him to fight Ichigo. Juha knows that Ichigo and Uryuu are friends, and he knows that Ichigo will have a hard time fighting with Uryuu if ever that happens.

Knowing Uryuu, he’s not the kind of guy that could be used easily by someone. Perhaps, he answered to the call so that he might gather more information about Juha Bach. Ichigo and Uryuu might fight in the future chapters but I don’t think it will be a serious one.

Western Digital has released a new SAS hard drive for enterprise and server use, called the WD XE SAS hard drive. It’s an enterprise class hard drive with 10,000 RPM spindle speed and 6Gbps SAS interface. The main drive has a 2.5-inch form factor. But a WD XE 3.5-inch is also available, which is the mounted version of this drive. It basically looks like the WD Velociraptor, but instead of a Serial ATA interface, it’s using Series Attached SCSI connectivity. Check out more details below and where you can get one.

Western Digital claims that the WD XE consumes up to 67% lesser power consumption compared to the 15,000 RPM rivals. However the WD XE lacks in variety of storage capacity. It’s only available in 300GB, 600GB and 900GB. Unlike the Velociraptor which has a 1TB version, and the WD RE Enterprise drives that has a 4TB storage capacity.

WD XE SAS Hard Drive Features

Highest performance in its class – WD XE delivers ultra-fast 6 Gb/s transfer rates, best-in-class sequential data rate of 204 MB/s, and outstanding random I/O performance;

Low power consumption – This 3.5-inch SAS drive delivers up to 67 percent lower power versus 3.5-inch 15,000 RPM drives, which can result in substantially lower total cost of ownership (TCO) while increasing capacity and reliability;

Form factor – 2.5-inch drive mounted in 3.5-inch performance adapter for ease of upgrade and ultra-cool operation;

Dual port, full duplex connectivity – Offers higher reliability, performance and data availability by eliminating single points of failure, designed for high-availability data center systems;

NoTouch™ ramp load technology – The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit; and

Industry’s highest reliability rating – 2 million hours MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure)

Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) – Optimizes operation and performance when the drives are used in vibration-prone, multi-drive chassis.

Price and Where to Buy

The 2.5-inch WD XE SAS enterprise hard drives are available in 300GB, 600GB and 900GB with models WD3001BKHG, WD6001BKHG and WD6001BKHG. Right now they are priced at $195, $363 and $515 respectively. You can order one from Amazon here.

Meanwhile the WD XE drives with the 3.5-inch adapter, with models WD3001HKHG, WD6001HKHG, and WD9001HKHG, has a MSRP ranging from $299.99 to $599.99, and comes with a limited 5 year warranty

Nokia has recently revealed its latest flagship smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 925, a successor of Lumia 920. The Nokia Lumia 925 features an 8.7 PureView camera that captures stunning high quality photos, paired with a 4.5-inch HD AMOLED display. And yes, it’s like Nokia has improved the previous Lumia 920. The Lumia 925 is like the “S” version of the 920. Check out more details below.

One of the distinct changes that you can see in the new Nokia Lumia 925 is the aluminum side frame, that also servers as its antenna. This gives it a bolder and more solid look than before. It also features an AMOLED display instead of an IPS LCD, but both the Lumia 925 and 920 have the same 4.5-inch screen size at 768×1080 pixel resolution with 332 pixel density.

Nokia has also trimmed down its size and weight, from 10.7mm thick down to 8.5mm, and from 185 grams to 139 grams. Not only that, the internal storage capacity of the Nokia Lumia 925 has also been reduced to 16GB, instead of a 32GB that the 920 has. Which might prevent this phone from having a higher price tag.

Another improvement found in the Nokia Lumia 925 is the improved camera lens. It does have the same sensor size as before, same 8 megapixel camera and same capabilities. But the camera of the Lumia 925 features six-element lenses and ISO of up to 3200. This lets you shoot in low light situation, and still produce a good quality photo. But going up to ISO 3200 would probably produce noticeable noise in the photo.

Basically those are the main differences of the Nokia Lumia 925 and Lumia 920. The rest of the specifications are exactly the same. I wouldn’t call it an “upgraded” version, since most of the specs are just the same. Only the physical appearance, the display and a tad improved camera lens where added, minus a 16GB storage.

What do you think? Will the improved version, 925, became a success and convince people to switch from iOS or Android to Windows Phone instead?

As you can see from the specifications table above, all of them are running on Android Jelly Bean. Only the O+ 8.15 has the 4.2.1 Jelly Bean version out of the box, unlike MyPhone A919i Duo and CM Skyfire 2.0 you still need to update the OS.

Both the O+ 8.15 and MP A919i Duo are powered by the same CPU and GPU paired with 1GB of RAM. Only the Skyfire 2.0 is powered by Snapdragon processor. Although they are clocked at the same speeds of 1.2GHz, we still need to confirm if the Skyfire has the better CPU. Not the mention its GPU is undisclosed.

In terms of internal storage capacity, the O+ 8.15 has twice the internal capacity. And this is an advantage over the two smartphones. 4GB of internal memory is very low in my opinion considering that these are not entry level smartphones. You can easily maxed that out with just a few apps and games. And even though there is an expandable memory of up to 32GB, all apps and games are installed in the internal memory by default. You will need to root your phone and do some serious tweaking is you want to install the apps in the external memory. Not a good option for the many.

All of them have a huge 5-inch display. But the Cherry Mobile Skyfire 2.0 is the weakest link here. It only has a 960×540 pixel resolution and a pixel density of 220 ppi, meaning not so good display quality. The MyPhone A919i Duo and O+ 8.15 have the better display quality.

Even though they all have an 8 megapixel rear facing camera, the O+ included the BSI technology in its phone’s camera. This might be a tad better compared to the two phones. In terms of network capabilities, both the A919i Duo and Skyfire 2.0 have dual SIM feature, while the O+ 8.15 only supports one SIM. Dual SIM might be a plus factor for some, but if you don’t need this feature, the O+8.15 is still the winner.

The rest of the specifications are more or less the same already. But here’s comes the deciding factor. Although the three smartphones have similar specs and features, their prices are different. The cheapest is the CM Skyfire 2.0 that is only Php 7,999. Followed by the MyPhone A919i Duo for Php 9,950. Take note, the display of the A919i Duo is better than the Skyfire 2.0, and probably the CPU/GPU too.

The O+ 8.15 is the more expensive smartphone among the three. It has an SRP of Php 12,995, but it definitely has better specs under its hood. If you have the budget, getting the O+ 8.15 is the better option. But the MyPhone A919i Duo seems to be the bang for the buck amongst the three. I would suggest you go to the nearest store and check them out individually. Find out which phone feel best in your hand.

UPDATE: By the way, Adam Parnala from NoypiGeeks.com posted an in depth review of the MyPhone A919i Duo. You might want to check it out.

So which phone do you think is better for you? Share your thoughts below.

WPEngine Coupon Code for May 2013

This month’s WPEngine Coupon Code, go here and get 60 days free of WPEngine managed WordPress hosting goodness. Whether its a personal plan, or a business plan you automatically get two months free when you pay for 1 year up front subscription.

Why I Chose WPEngine

WordPress is the most popular content management software for blogging out there. But as a blogger, I need to focus more on the content of my blog. I need to read this, try this, and write stuff that my readers would find useful and informative. And those task alone is really eating up a lot of time.

If you are using WordPress, you also need to maintain your blog, backup regularly, ensure that it’s secured and protected from attacks, hacks, injections, malwares and tons of other attacks. You also need to make sure that your site is running fast and optimal. You also have to make sure that it’s always up, and is serving your readers at all time.

I know as a blogger, things like these, the “dirty works”, also consumes a lot of time. Don’t you just want somebody else do that for you? This is where WPEngine comes in. This is the reason why I chose WPEngine’s managed WordPress hosting services for my blog.

WPEngine does all of the dirty work for me. They keep my site secure, keeping it malware-free and free from vulnerabilities. My site was attacked by SQL injections before. And I had to stop blogging and spent a couple of days trying to find out what was causing my site to slow down big time. I could have ask for professional help but that would cost me a lot of money. That’s why I did it manually.

But now that I am with WPEngine, I don’t have to worry about those things anymore. They backup my site regularly, make sure that it’s up to date, and best of all, they do the caching and optimization for me. I don’t have to worry about Caching plugins or configurations anymore. All I have to do is focus on my blog, and just focus on delivering more content to my readers.

Is WPEngine Expensive?

Their Personal plan starts at $29 per month only for 1 WordPress install. Meaning 1 blog site. It’s true that it’s more expensive than your typical and cheap shared hosting solution. But does your cheap shared hosting solution keeps your site secure? Does it make your blog run super fast? No! If you want to purchase these additional features, you would end up paying $100 or more per month for these services. Not to mentioned VPS and Dedicated server solution are way more expensive.

You also get amazing support with WPEngine. And since they are experts on WordPress, all your questions regarding your WordPress powered blogs are sure to be answered.

Oh, I almost forgot, you can also choose from US, UK or Tokyo data centers without any additional payments at all. And you can switch from one data center to another, without additional cost, just in case you decide to switch later.

WPEngine vs the Competition?

I’ve tried other managed WordPress hosting, who tries to match WPEngine’s pricing and features. But WPEngine is second to none. It’s simply the best manged WordPress hosting solution out there. I know this, because The PC Enthusiast and Anime Fanatic is hosted in WPEngine. I have tried other similar services before. Moving your entire blog from one hosting to another is a pain and very time consuming. But at least I discovered that WPEngine is the best out there.

WPEngine Coupon Code

Don’t worry because I have this WPEngine promo code that entitles you to 60 days free of WPEngine managed hosting service when you opt for an annual subscription plan. This WPEngine coupon code also comes with a 60 day money back guarantee no questions ask, in case you decide not to continue. Check it out here.
