It’s like an upgraded version of their previous My Passport lineups. The WD My Passport Ultra features additional layers of data protection, cloud backup capability, fast USB 3.0 connection and a slim and compact design. The WD My Passport Ultra portable hard drive features a built-in WD SmartWare Pro backup software with Dropbox integration, hardware encryption and password protection to keep your data same and prevent unauthorized access.

The WD SmartWare Pro automatic backup software lets you choose where and when you back up your files. Whether in a local storage or in the Cloud via Dropbox. The WD My Passport Ultra makes use of a USB 3.0 interface for super fast transfer rate. It’s also backward compatible with USB 2.0, and doesn’t require another power source since it draws its power via the USB connection.

Price and Where to Buy

The WD My Passport Ultra has a manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) of $99.99 for the 500GB capacity and $129.99 for the 1TB capacity. There’s also a 2TB capacity but price was not disclosed yet. Mostly probably it would be somewhere near $200 for the 2TB version.

My Passport Ultra comes with a protective pouch when you buy one, and each drive is back by a 3-year limited warranty. We’ll just have to wait for a couple of days or weeks for our local stores, retailers and online store to have stocks.
