Published on July 2nd, 2012
Asus has a new custom-design graphics card, the Asus Dragon HD 7850 DirectCU II. This new Radeon HD 7850 DirectCU II Dragon Edition graphics card targets a specific market segment at a certain price point. The card is situated between a reference DirectCU II card and a DirectCU II TOP card.
The Asus HD 7850 Dragon Edition, with model number DRAGON HD7850-DC2O-2GD5, has a core clock speed of 910MHz, memory clock speed of 5000MHz and 2GB of GDDR5. It’s relatively slower than the Asus HD 7850 DirectCU II TOP, but the Dragon Edition features a metal back plate which the DirectCU II and DirectCU II TOP does not have.
The heatpipe design and the PCB are also different in the Asus HD 7850 Dragon Edition. The card features a 6+3 phase Digi+ VRM and draws power from two 6-pin PCIe power connectors. It has DVI-D, DVI-I, DisplayPort and HDMI display ports found at the back of the bard. The Asus HD 7850 Dragon Edition is cooled by two 80mm fans and occupies two slots.
Unfortunately, the Asus HD 7850 Dragon Edition’s price is not clear as of the moment. Nevertheless we expect that the price would be competitive and would be priced lower than the DirectCU II TOP (less than $289 USD). Currently the ASUS HD 7850 Dragon HD7850-DC2O-2GD5 is now available in China but worldwide release date is still not disclosed.
