Processor and Operating System
As you can see in the specifications table above, both the Asus Transformer Pad TF300 and Acer Iconia Tab A510 runs on Ice Cream Sandwich and is powered by the same NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. Both of them also have the same GPU processor. However, the Acer Iconia Tab A510 is clocked 100 MHz higher compared to the Asus Transformer Pad 300. But this does not mean that the A510 has a significant advantage over the Transformer Pad 300.
Memory and Storage
Both the Asus Transformer Pad TF300 and Acer Iconia Tab A510 are built with a 1GB RAM. But The Transformer Pad 300 is built with a DDR3 type of memory, whereas the Iconia A510 is built with DDR2 memory only. The DDR3 type of memory is faster than DDR2. They have faster read, write and data transfer speeds. Both of them have a 32GB variant and have an expansion slot of microSD that supports up to 32GB of microSD card.
Display
Although both of them sport a 10.1 inch display, the Asus Transformer Pad TF300 has the better display. Why? The display is made from IPS technology whereas the Iconia Tab A510 is using an LCD type of display. Colors are more vivid and alive in the Transformer Pad 300 and you have a wider viewing angle compared to the Iconia A510.
The Camera
It’s very clear that the Asus Transformer Pad TF300 has the better camera. The Pad 300 is built with an 8 megapixel sensor with an aperture size of f/2.2 for better light input resulting to a better image quality. The Transformer Pad 300’s rear camera is capable of taking 1080p HD videos. And has a 1.2 megapixel front facing camera. Whereas the Iconia Tab A510 has only a 5 megapixel rear camera, capable of taking 720p videos and a 1 megapixel front facing camera.
Dimensions
The Acer Iconia Tab A510 has a smaller size in terms of its length and width. But it is a little bit thicker compared to the Transformer Pad TF300 and weighs by 45 grams more. Take note, we are just comparing the tablets. The size and weight indicated in the table above does not include the Transformer Pad TF300 optional keyboard dock.
Price
Now, here is the funny thing, if you look at their specifications, you would think that the Asus Transfomer Pad TF300 is definitely more expensive than the Acer Iconia Tab A510. But that is not the case here. The Asus Transformer Pad 300 is priced $50 cheaper compared to the Iconia Tab A510.
How come the Transformer Pad 300 series is much cheaper? Asus did not use an aluminum body for the Transformer Pad 300 series. Instead they used hard plastic and other materials to reduce its cost and make it cheaper thus more attractive to the consumers. If you want an aluminum body, don’t worry, Asus has the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity series. But of course, it’s priced at a higher level.
Conclusion
I don’t know if you are an Asus fan boy or an Acer fan boy, but if you ask me, the Asus Transformer Pad TF300 is the winner here. Even though it does not have an aluminum body like the Asus Transformer Prime and the Infinity, it is still built with a better specifications and features plus it has a much affordable price compared to the Acer Iconia Tab A510. Anyway, if you are still undecided, I would suggest you visit a local gadget store and see it for yourself.
