CM’s latest flagship, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 is powered by a MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. The processor is paired with a 2GB of RAM and graphics is powered by a Mali 450MP graphics processor. It has a nice 5-inch Full HD display with Dragontrail Scratch resistant glass and OGS. Out of the box it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean but it is upgradable to Android 4.4 Kitkat as soon as the update becomes available. It has 16GB of internal storage and has a microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB capacity.

When it comes to networking and connectivity options, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 has Dual SIM/Dual Standby features, 3G and HSPA+ connectivity. It also has WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and supports USB OTG. For your photo and video needs, it has an 18 megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and BSI technology. The rear camera is capable of taking 1080p videos at 30fps and features ClearMotion and Blue Free technology. It is paired with an 8 megapixel front facing camera for those selfie sessions.

According to Techpinas, the Cherry Mobile Comos Z2 got an Antutu Benchmark score of 27,036 which is faster than an HTC One, but just below the performance of a Samsung Galaxy S4. However, Yugatech’s Antutu benchmark score of the Cosmos Z2 is only 22,911 which is still far from the processing power of the Qualcomm MSM8974A, NVidia Tegra 4 and even Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. And I’m pretty sure that it won’t beat Samsung’s Exynos 5410 either.

Meanwhile the Cosmoz Z2 is only powered by a 2,000 mAh Li-Ion battery. Many of us would agree that this is not enough for an octa-core powered smartphone. Expect that you won’t last a day with this phone without recharging it.

UPDATE: I was a little bit bothered about MediaTek’s true octa core processor. At first I was thinking that the 2000 mAh battery might not be enough thinking that it is somewhere near the performance of other octa core or quad core SoCs. But after seeing the benchmark scores, it’s not as powerful as I thought it was. Could this also mean that it’s not as power hungry unlike its competitors. When I dug for more information about MediaTek’s MT6592 Octa Core, it seems that their SoC are power efficient as well. Check out the video below.

Do you think it’s true for real life use as well? Well, let’s just wait for unbiased reviews to show up in the following days or weeks to come.
