Samsung Electronics has launched the SSD 990 EVO, the latest addition to its consumer SSD lineup. This NVMe SSD offers powerful performance and improved energy efficiency, catering to a wide range of users for everyday computing tasks like gaming, work, and video/photo editing.

Enhanced Performance

The 990 EVO delivers improved performance, boasting a 43% increase over its predecessor, the 970 EVO Plus. It achieves sequential read speeds of up to 5,000 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) and write speeds of up to 4,200 MB/s. Additionally, random read and write speeds see enhancements with up to 700K input/output operations per second (IOPS) and 800K IOPS, respectively.

Utilizing Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, the SSD directly links to the host processor’s DRAM, enabling optimized performance despite a DRAM-less design. This results in faster loading speeds for games and quicker access to large files for users upgrading from previous mainstream SSDs.

Improved Power Efficiency and Smart Thermal Solution

The Samsung 990 EVO demonstrates a 70% improvement in power efficiency compared to the 970 EVO Plus, enabling extended usage on PCs without constant concern for battery life. It supports Modern Standby, providing an instant on/off function with uninterrupted internet connectivity and seamless notification reception, even in low-power states. Additionally, the 990 EVO’s heat spreader label efficiently regulates the thermal condition of the NAND chip, ensuring consistent high-level operations without compromising drive integrity.

A Versatile SSD for Current and Future Computing

The 990 EVO is a versatile SSD designed to address current and future computing needs. It enables seamless multitasking for various daily activities, including gaming, business, and creative tasks.
