How to Connect Your Android Phone to a Monitor or HDTV?

Just to be specific, I’m going to show you what you need to connect your Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2 to your monitor. If you have other Android phone brand like LG, Motorola, or the new BlackBerry Z10, sometimes they have a dedicated HDMI video out connection. All you need is a micro HDMI to HDMI connector. The accessory might be included with the phone or sold separately.

According to Samsung, this could also work with other MHL-enabled device like the Galaxy S2 but I’m not sure, I haven’t tried it. Below are the things that you need so that you can connect your phone to a monitor or HDTV:

1. Samsung MHL HDTV Adapter for Galaxy S3 and Note 2. Check out my review here.

2. BlueRigger High Speed HDMI to DVI Cable here or BlueRigger High Speed HDMI cable here.

I used a HDMI to DVI cable since my monitor doesn’t have a HDMI connection. If you don’t like BlueRigger, you can use other brands. But I like BlueRigger cables because of its high quality build and I have first have experience with these cables.

3. Juiced Systems 5 Pin to 11 Pin Micro USB Adapter here.

Juiced Systems 5 Pin to 11 Pin Micro USB Adapter

You only need this one if you are planning to connect the Samsung MHL HDTV adapter with phones that uses a 5 pin microUSB like the Galaxy S2. I bought one, only to find out that I can’t use this on my Galaxy Note 2, since the microUSB port is already 11 pin.

Once you have all the accessories that you need, you just connected all the cables together. And it will automatically stream your phone’s display to your monitor or HDTV. Just remember, the Samsung MHL Adapter for Galaxy S3 and Note 2 requires an external power via the microUSB port. It’s also indicated in the product’s manual.

Hope this guide helps and happy streaming!
